TDL Metadata
Metadata Management is a fundamental component to any data solution, especially for financial services and banking. The compliance (such as GDPR) and financial (such as BCBS239) regulations require the data in a client to be well described, maintained and accessible.The Temenos Data Hub (TDH) / Temenos Data Lake (TDL) has two non-functional elements at its core, which span the entire solution. They are security and metadata. The metadata solution provides a catalogue of data assets, details of the flow and transformation of data through the solution. Temenos provides an enterprise-class metadata management repository and solution, which supports the metadata use cases for Core Banking solutions, Data Lake solutions, and Regulatory and Compliance requirements.The Analytics Data Store (ADS) provides a relational view of the source system tables that includes near real time and snapshot versions of the data. All the metadata for the ADS are driven from the table schema definition in the source system. ADS module uses the APIs given by Temenos Meta service to create, update or delete an entity or relationship in Temenos central Metadata Management system. This is much similar to ODS metadata model and shares the same set of APIs to create type, instance, database, table, column, index and so on. Apache Atlas is data governance and metadata framework used for Temenos Data Engineering (TDE).
All the column schema properties are captured in Atlas metadata for ODS or SDS. In TDE, the lineage is derived for each process stages and entities used in the data flows from source to target.
The business definition of table and column entities of ods_table, ods_column, sds_table and sds_column types is captured against the Description attribute.
Metadata Management System Capabilities
This section explains the various capabilities of Metadata management system.
Temenos Meta service acts as an intermediate service layer between Temenos modules and Temenos Central Metadata Management System (Apache Atlas).
Metadata – Operational Data Store (ODS)
The ODS provides a relational view of the source system tables including near real time and snapshot versions of the data.
Metadata – Temenos Data Engineering (TDE)
The TDE acts as a source that makes API call to Temenos Meta Service for any amendments in Temenos Central Metadata Management System.
Metadata – Custom and Third Party System
The Analytics Data Store (ADS) provides a relational view of the source system tables, including near real-time and snapshot versions of the data. All the metadata for the ADS are driven from the table schema definition in the source system.
